III Your audience is project based (PM, IT, Eng. ...). They need to understand they cannot be a Turkey.
a. What's a Turkey and how do you become one in life?
i. Read this post to understand the Turkey metaphor https://careerpivot.com/2016/your-career-turkey-perspective/
ii. It is the story of being aware of what's next, what do I enjoy, and where is my industry headed. For example, when I worked for IBM in late 1992, I was a turkey. It was safe. I was paid a lot of money. January of 1993 IBM nearly declared bankruptcy, full employment policy ended, and layoffs ensued. If you worked for Enron in early 2001, you were a Turkey. Need I say more. If you worked in the oil industry 2-3 years ago, you were a Turkey....
IV Let's Talk about Risk. You say playing it safe is the new risky.
a. What sort of risks might I be exposed to given the below information? Where are my potential blind spots?
i. approaching 40 years old - married with 3 daughters tween and up.
ii. employed as internal management consultant, coach and trainer
iii. Work peers roughly 15-20 years older than me
iv. Chemical and Mechanical Engineering Background working in Telecom industry
v. Been laid off before. Currently seeing layoffs around me among an aged demographic.
V Can you talk a bit about your "Targeted Job Search Program?"
a. In this context what does it mean to ask for A-I-R, and how can this approach be leveraged?
VI What specifically can my audience take away as a result of your message (2-3 actions)?
a. Be self aware and appropriately brand yourself. If you do not do this someone will do it for you.
b. Plan for what's next. If you do not, you will be a Turkey.
c. Always have a Plan B. Develop it now.
